I gained entry to the University of Leicester Medical School in 1994. On 16th July 1998, I was awarded a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree by the same University. On 21st July 2000 I was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery ( MBChB) also by the same University.

I undertook the posts of house physician and house surgeon in University affiliated teaching hospitals within Leicester and Nuneaton, UK.  From 2001-3, I undertook my training in general internal medicine at Queen’s Medical Centre, University teaching hospital, Nottingham, UK.  During this time I successfully completed all three parts of the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) UK, and on 1st April 2003 was awarded the MRCP.

My dermatology training began as a Senior House Officer in Harrogate District Hospital, North Yorkshire in 2003, where I worked with Dr Alison Layton for a period of six months. I then secured the post of Locum Appointment for Training at The Dermatology Centre, Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Manchester in 2004, headed by Professor Christopher Griffiths. I was subsequently appointed to Dermatology Specialist Registrar (National Training Number NWN/005/003/N) at the same institution later that same year.

My specialist registrar training was undertaken over a period of 4 years where I successfully completed all the dermatology training requirements stipulated by the Joint Committee for Higher Medical Training (JCHMT). Each year, I successfully completed the mandatory Record of In-House Training Assessment (RITA) in front of the panel of the local Specialist Training Sub-Committee.

Over the course of my dermatology training I have attended numerous educational courses and meetings ensuring my continuous professional development. I have undertaken numerous audit and research projects and have many publications in international peer-reviewed journals.  I have also held numerous positions of responsibility including Regional Representative to the National Specialist Training Committee and Chief Dermatology Resident.

Having fulfilled all the stringent requirements stipulated by the JCHMT, I gained my Certificate of Completion of Training in Dermatology on September 3rd 2008 and subsequent entry to the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register as a Dermatologist.  This may be verified via the GMC’s website (http://www.gmc-uk.org/register/search/index.asp#) by clicking on the link ‘List of Registered Medical Practitioners’ and entering my surname (Hussain) and GMC number (4744306)
