FRAXEL – Almost Too Good To Be True

Aug 17, 2019

Around the age of 40, the passage of time makes itself truly comfortable on our skin, which also makes it much harder to ignore. A good night’s sleep and a quality concealer are no longer an easy-fix for pesky pigmentation, lack of elasticity, dullness, scarring and fine lines.

It may be that you’re a rookie on the rejuvenation scene, but you know your skin needs a little more ‘oomph’, Perhaps you’ve tried facial peels or even topical retinoids but are not ready for the step up to Botox, dermal fillers, or surgery, and you’re not sure if there’s an in-between.

There is. It’s called ‘Fraxel’, and it very well may be the answer to all your skincare concerns.

SkinCentre has been delivering Fraxel laser treatments with an enormous degree of success for many years now; the treatment is currently unavailable anywhere else in the Bay Of Plenty, Fraxel is the perfect solution for people who want their skin to look younger, but not ‘unnatural’. Without surgery, you can achieve effective results that aren’t drastic or scary – it’s still entirely you, just with a few years less on the clock. Better yet, the healing process is quick with minimal downtime, ideal for busy lives.

With a track record of over 800,000 treatments, Fraxel technology is proven to be safe and effective for multiple solutions. It can be tailored to suit a host of individual needs and addresses many signs of ageing, such as:

● Fine lines around the eyes and mouth
● Surgical scars, acne and scars
● Actinic keratosis – a common precancerous skin condition
● Uneven skin tone and texture
● Age spots/sunspots (pigmented lesions)
● Melasma (patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and nose)
● Dullness

Why choose SkinCentre?

Training, experience, equipment, safety and care

SkinCentre is renowned for delivering a standard of excellence in dermatology, a reputation developed providing over 25 years of first-rate medical care.

We know that the expert advice of an experienced and qualified laser specialist can be a face-saving decision, and prioritise training for our staff accordingly. SkinCentre employs two qualified and experienced laser specialists; both are nurses who have passed Fraxel accreditation, followed by intensive in-house training with founding Dermatologist, Dr Paul Salmon.

We only invest in top quality medical equipment and instrumentation – our Fraxel Restore Dual 1550/1927 machine is the latest model and top of the line.

More options and lots of perks

When you book your Fraxel treatment with the SkinCentre, you’ll also receive a ‘Post-Peel Dermasound’ which removes any dry skin and ensures hydration is at its peak, to speed healing. What’s more, we offer 1550 Fraxel after the surgery to minimise scarring.

One of the biggest advantages enjoyed by our clients is the supply of many advanced treatments at the SkinCentre unavailable elsewhere. When having a Fraxel treatment with us you too will receive priority access to our comprehensive range of auxiliary treatments with no additional wait times or referrals to other healthcare providers. Combination treatments such as the collagen-promoting V2 Beauty Booster treatment and the more recently popular Platelet Rich Plasma treatments are readily available, and your nurse specialist can discuss what will work best for your skin type and current treatment regime.

Last but not least, if you’re combining two Fraxel treatment areas, SkinCentre applies a 50% discount to the least expensive treatment.

What can I expect to feel immediately after my Fraxel treatment?

Most Fraxel patients report the sensation of a “light sunburn” immediately after treatment – this usually diminishes after 2-3 hours. A specially formulated solution will be applied directly after your treatment, and you will be advised of what topical products may be used in the first two weeks. Until the skin is completely healed, all products must be anti-clogging and non-irritating.

Some clients experience mild swelling and puffiness for 2-3 days and it’s common to experience redness and peeling.

What can I expect to feel during my Fraxel treatments?

As one of SkinCentre’s experienced laser nurse specialists, Georgie Herbison is keenly aware of how her Fraxel patients may feel.

“It can be uncomfortable but certainly not intolerable. Most clients describe a ‘prickling’ sensation during the treatment” Georgie says. “We encourage concerned patients to take panadeine or panadol an hour before treatment. Everyone receives topical anaesthesia before the treatment, and there is the option of facial nerve blocks for patients with particularly low pain tolerance. We also use a ‘Zimmer’ which applies cold air to the skin, helping to combat heat which is generated throughout the treatment.”

Because each treatment is tailored to suit the individual, Georgie says that they can alter the intensity of the laser treatment to suit your comfort levels.

Post-treatment, it’s critical to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen daily. After two weeks, or once the sloughing of skin is complete, you may resume your normal skin regime. If the thought of not wearing make-up during this time concerns you, Oxygenetix Foundation may be purchased directly from the SkinCentre; it’s specially formulated to use after Fraxel treatment to support healing.

How long before I see results and how long will they last?

Results are immediate and progressive. Your skin will continue to improve over the next few months as the healing process rebuilds and replaces your damaged tissue. Optimal improvement is seen in 3 – 6 months after your treatment course has finished.

You’ll have the option of a top-up course every 1 – 2 years but many clients have had fabulous results without the need for regular treatments.

How does Fraxel work?

Fraxel treats damaged skin and only a fraction of tissue at a time, so the results are focused and productive. Due to the precision of this technology, Fraxel laser treatment works not only on the face, but also on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest and hands.

Microscopic laser columns precisely treat thousands of tiny areas, penetrating deep into your skin to stimulate your body’s healing process; resulting in new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production which makes your skin plumper, tighter, and more elastic.

Because the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, the surrounding tissue is left intact, which is why the healing process is usually very rapid.

How many Fraxel sessions will I need and what will it cost?

Clinical studies suggest that, on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart.

Most patients see the results immediately.. Fraxel works with your body’s natural skin cells and will bring more improvement over the next 3-6 months as the skin continues to build collagen. Your skin will feel smoother with more even skin tone.
Fraxel treatments usually take between 15-45 minutes and the average range of cost per treatment session is:

● Full face – $995.00 (we recommend three)
● Neck – $950.00
● Decolletage – $950.00
● Hand – $495.00
● Perioral – $496.00

The maximum number of areas we can treat simultaneously is two. However, if you’re combining two treatment areas, SkinCentre applies a 50% discount to the least expensive treatment.

How will you know if Fraxel is right for you?

Generally, we make our best decisions with reliable information and qualified expertise (this excludes Dr Google). Your skin treatment should not be the result of guesswork or experimentation.

As with any laser, Fraxel works better on some skins than others. Seeking advice from a world-class dermatological institute like SkinCentre can save a lot of leg work; not just about the treatments themselves, but whether they’d be right for your skin type.

SkinCentre makes it simple when you book a no-cost consultation with our nurse. You’ll get all the answers you need from the people who know skin like the back of their hand.
