Did you know that SkinCentre has its very own secret weapon for one of our most stubborn skin complaints?

Complex K is a custom-made, all-in-one topical application that treats pigmentation, and it’s unlike any other in its class.

Leading dermatologist and SkinCentre’s founder, Dr Paul Salmon, developed this unique formulation based on decades of clinical practice and scientific research.

A significant innovation in skincare, Complex K ingredients ability to reverse the effects of excessive exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays is well-proven in multiple independent clinical trials.

Non-invasive, easy to use and highly effective, Complex K has been a vital and timely addition to SkinCentre’s comprehensive range of skin rejuvenation treatment options. We talk to one of SkinCentre’s most experienced practice nurses, Georgie Herbison, who sheds light on their signature treatment solution.

How long has Complex K been in use and approximately how many clients have you treated?

Over three years now, and in that time, our patient numbers have increased dramatically. At our last count, we had more than 100 patients receiving the benefits of Complex K in one form or another. It’s excellent as a stand-alone treatment, but also highly effective as an adjunct to many other therapies, including Fraxel. (correct?)

Would you describe this product as being one of the more effective lightening treatments available? If so, how do you draw a comparison?

Yes, it is the most effective. Not only do you get the inhibition of pigment production and anti-ageing effects, a slight peeling action which lightens the skin, but you also have the retinoid component, too. Retinoids are anti-ageing; increasing cell turnover and shedding of dead surface cells which in turn gives even better penetration for the cream. These effects help the older cells slough away, revealing fresher, smoother skin.

* Melasma is a chronic skin disorder that results in symmetrical, blotchy, brownish facial pigmentation.

What do your clients say about Complex K?

We’ve had very positive feedback. Our patients like using it, they like the improvement in their skin texture and, of course, the fading of the pigmentation.

Historically, ethnicities with darker skin tones have been more challenging to treat, and laser therapies carry more risk in those patients. We’re particularly encouraged hearing from many of those clients, overjoyed to find something other than lasers which treat their melasma. One client experienced fantastic results with pigmentation on the tip of her nose within three months. Another suffered from marked melasma for many years, requiring the daily application of thick makeup to cover it. Following her course of Complex K, that’s a thing of the past. (this is a bit wishy-washy – can we be a bit more definitive about the result here?) After using Complex K., the majority of patients comment on the pleasures of eliminating the ‘cover-up’ ritual from their daily chores.

How long does it take to see the results of using Complex K?

It takes about eight weeks before you begin to observe changes, but there will be a noticeable improvement after three months of use; at least 30-50%. Some patients see results earlier.

Is Complex K complex to use?

Not at all – it’s a topical cream, so very straightforward to apply. Initially, the skin has to adjust to the powerful active ingredients, so we encourage clients to use it on alternate days with a gradual increase to daily applications. It’s preferable to use at night because of the detrimental effects of sunlight.

The active components may cause some dryness and peeling initially, leaving your skin feeling dry and tight. Complex K balances this with a third beneficial ingredient – hydrocortisone. As the skin adapts, the issue quickly resolves.

Once clients adapt to twice weekly use, they’ll progress to two weeks of nightly applications. If there are no untoward side-effects, you may continue every night after that, until your skin shows the results you want.

Storage is crucial for maintaining the effectiveness of Complex K’s active ingredients. It needs to be kept out of the light at a cool, even temperature, and if that’s not possible, we recommend storing it in your fridge.

How is your client’s regular skincare routine affected?

Clients may include Complex K=as part of their regular skincare regime. However, applying a moisturiser first will dilute the medication – you’ll achieve maximum effect with independent use.

How will clients know if Complex K is right for their skin?

Due to the strength of the active ingredients, Complex K is a prescription-only cream and SkinCentre is the only place to supply it.

Anyone wanting to experience the benefits of Complex K can ring and book a free no-obligation consultation at Skin Centre. A skin assessment will allow us to advise you regarding your suitability for Complex K and the outcomes you’re likely to achieve.
