The Skin Centre operates from 183 Powderham Street New Plymouth, where we offer consultations and treatments for all skin conditions, skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
Skin Checks for Melanoma and non Melanoma skin cancer such as BCC and SCC are performed by Dr Geoff Tvrdeich, Dr Lisa Connelly and Dr Rami Hamadeh. Treatments for skin cancer both surgical and non surgical are offered at the Skin Centre Taranaki.. All medical dermatology consultations for eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and any other skin condition are seen by Dr Hamadeh or Dr Lisa Connelly.
All doctors at the SkinCentre Taranaki are Southern Cross Affiliated and are recognised by all major Health insurance companies in New Zealand.
Dr Geoff Tvrdeich
Geoff graduated from Otago Medical School in 1990 and worked as a House Surgeon and Medical Registrar at Taranaki Base Hospital before going overseas for a year. Upon his return he trained in General Practice and Palliative (Hospice) care and worked for several years as a GP and hospice doctor.
In 1997 he took over Dr Don Barclay’s General Practice in the old Westown Medical Centre. In 2000 he and the other doctors in the centre set up CAREfirst Medical Centre, moving into new premises in 2001. In 2004 he was made a Fellow of the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners.
Whilst working as GP he developed a strong interest in Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery and has completed extensive training in this field. He gained the International Dermoscopy Diploma (Distinction) in 2007 and was made a Fellow of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia (SCCA) in 2010.
He is a SCCA tutor in Dermoscopy and Skin Cancer Surgery, teaching Diploma courses to other doctors in Australasia. As a Fellow of the college he is also involved in accrediting other doctors in New Zealand working in the Skin Cancer field.
Dr Lisa Connelly
Dr Elizabeth "Lisa" Alvarez Connelly is a vocationally registered Dermatology consultant in NZ. She obtained her medical doctorate in the United States from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1999. After graduation she completed four years of specialised dermatology training at the University of Minnesota, USA. Following her dermatology training she spent an additional year training in paediatric dermatology at the University of California San Diego, which is one of the largest paediatric dermatology training programs in the world. She is board certified in both Dermatology and Paediatric Dermatology in the US and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr. Connelly is actively involved with the Society for Pediatric Dermatology where she has served as chairperson of the patient advocacy and practice management committee and is currently a member of the international physician committee. Dr. Connelly has extensive experience as a lecturer in her field having spoken widely within the US and internationally on paediatric vascular lesions, eczema/ Atopic Dermatitis, genodermatoses, and distraction anesthesia techniques. She has also written numerous textbook chapters in these fields.
Dr. Connelly moved to NZ from the US three years ago with her husband Michael an A&E doctor at TDHB and their three children. In addition to conducting dedicated paediatric and adult dermatology clinics at TDHB Lisa is also looking forward to private practice in New Plymouth.
Lisa will be consulting on all matters related to skin, hair and nails including but not limited to skin cancers, eczema, rashes, acne, autoimmune skin diseases, and vascular lesions.
